Lean-to timber veranda, made to measure

A lean-to veranda stands against your house and extends your living room outdoors. We make the frame to measure in oak or Douglas fir with mortise and tenon joints. On the house side it rests on a wall plate or on posts just in front of the wall, and the roof falls gently away from the house so rainwater runs off, not down your wall.

What to check

  • Height: mind the tops of windows and doors, and the house gutter.
  • Fall: a gentle slope to the downpipe.
  • Light: a roof light keeps the room behind bright.

Classic or modern

A period home suits oak with curved braces, see country style veranda. Modern architecture suits black Douglas fir, see modern black veranda. Want to enclose it later? See veranda with glass sliding doors.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission for a lean-to veranda?

Often not at the rear, but it depends on size and position. See planning permission.

Is it fixed to the wall?

It can be, with a wall plate. Or posts can stand just in front of the wall so the frame is free of the house.
