Teak fence boards: 21 mm teak slats, 50, 70 or 90 mm wide

Our teak fence boards are slim slats, 21 mm thick and 50, 70 or 90 mm wide. They are grooved for hidden clips and have a tongue and groove on the ends, so they click together lengthways. You order them by the metre of fence, with posts and clips included.

In short: our teak fence boards are not rough sawn boards but planed slats, 21 mm thick and 50, 70 or 90 mm wide. A groove along the edge takes the clip and the ends have a tongue and groove, so there are no visible screws and the boards click together lengthways. There is a 5 mm gap between boards.

The profile of a teak fence board

  • Groove along the edge. The black stainless steel clip sits in it, in the shadow of the gap. No screw is visible.
  • Tongue and groove ends. Two boards click together lengthways, so they need not finish on a post and there is little waste.
  • Chamfered ends. Where two ends meet you get a slim V rather than a hard joint.
  • 5 mm gap. The clip doubles as a spacer, so every gap is the same.

Which board width?

WidthBoards at 1.8 m highLook
50 mmabout 33Fine lines, modern
70 mmabout 24In between, a popular choice
90 mmabout 19Calm surface, more timber

The fence calculator counts the boards for you, along with posts, clips and screws. All three widths are 21 mm thick.

Why teak for fence boards?

Slim boards need to stay straight or the gaps start to wave. Teak moves very little, shrinking less than Ipe. It is also light, about 670 kg/m³, so a bundle is easy to carry. The downside: teak is softer than Ipe and dents more easily. More on the timber at what is teak wood.

Teak fence boards FAQs

How thick are teak fence boards?

21 mm, in 50, 70 or 90 mm widths.

How many teak boards do I need per metre?

At 1.8 m high, about 33 boards of 50 mm, 24 of 70 mm or 19 of 90 mm stacked up. The calculator gives the exact number.

Are the boards screwed?

Yes, but out of sight: black stainless steel clips sit in the groove. No screws show on the face.

Can teak fence boards go vertically?

Our teak fencing is built horizontally. The slats only run vertically on a teak gate.
