Modern teak fencing: horizontal slats, clean lines and no visible screws

Modern teak fencing is built from horizontal slats with clean lines and a slim 5 mm gap. The black clips sit in the gap, so there is not a screw in sight. Pale teak works well with anthracite, black and white.

In short: modern teak fencing has horizontal 50, 70 or 90 mm slats, a 5 mm gap and hidden black clips. From the timber side you only see teak: no screws, no panels and no seam every 1.8 m. Add a teak gate on a black steel frame and it all reads as one. From £296.92 per metre.

What makes teak fencing modern?

  • Horizontal lines. Horizontal slats make a garden look wider and calmer, especially a narrow town garden.
  • No screws on show. Black coated stainless steel clips sit in the gap between slats.
  • A slim, even gap. The clips hold 5 mm everywhere, so the lines stay crisp.
  • Continuous slats. The slats click together lengthways with staggered joints. No rhythm of panels and posts.
  • Black details. A teak garden gate on a black steel frame with black fittings finishes it off.

Horizontal or vertical?

Our teak fencing is always built horizontally. Horizontal slats make a garden feel wider and calmer; vertical ones make it feel taller and busier. The teak slats only run vertically on a gate, so the gate stands out slightly from the fence.

Styling a modern garden

Teak is a pale yellow brown and sits well with anthracite paving, black window frames and white render. Uplighters under the fence give a warm play of lines at night. For a premium finish, choose slats on both sides so the fence looks finished from next door too. More examples are on teak fence ideas.

Does modern teak fencing stay looking good?

Left untreated, teak turns silver grey, which also looks modern next to black steel and concrete. To keep the warm golden tone, oil it; see teak fence care.

Modern teak fencing FAQs

Is a horizontal fence strong enough?

Yes. Every slat is clipped to Azobé posts of 60 x 60 mm, about a metre apart.

Can you see the posts?

Not from the timber side; the slats run in front of the posts. If you do not want to see posts from the other side either, choose slats on both sides.

How much is modern teak fencing?

From £296.92 per metre at 1.8 m high, including posts, clips and screws. See teak fence cost.

Can I put it up myself?

Yes, two people can do it with the clip system. See how to install teak fencing.
