Bespoke Ipe garden gate

Does a standard 1.00 m gate not fit your opening? Then we make the Ipe gate to measure. A low gate for the front garden, a wide gate for a side passage or a pair of gates for the drive: send us the sizes and we will price the gate for you.

It is built like our standard gates, such as the Ipe garden gate with 50 mm slats and the double Ipe garden gate: a matt black steel frame with black fittings, clad in Ipe.

What you choose

• The width and height of the gate
• A single gate or a pair of gates
• Clad on one side (timber on one face) or on both sides (timber on both faces)
• Slats 50, 70 or 90 mm wide and 21 mm thick, with a 5 mm gap and hidden clips
• Solid 40 x 40 mm battens, as on our batten gates
• Fixing to a wall or to posts

Clad on one side or both sides

On a gate clad on one side, the timber sits on one face of the frame and you see the black frame from the other side. A gate clad on both sides has timber on both faces, looks just as good from either side and is thicker. With 40 x 40 mm battens, the battens on the two faces are staggered so you cannot see through.

1. Measure the opening between the walls or posts and decide on the height you want.
2. Choose a single gate or a pair, clad on one or both sides, and the slat width or the 40 x 40 mm battens.

Posts

You can fix the frame straight to a wall or hang it on posts. For a wide gate or a pair of gates we recommend our extra heavy 140 x 140 mm Ipe gate posts, set in concrete, so the posts will not lean or sink.

Care

Ipe is naturally durable. Outdoors, every timber weathers to a silver grey over time. To keep the colour, treat the wood with hardwood oil.
