OIL to combat greying of hardwood decking slats
Our oil is water based, therefore friendly to the environment. Use oil to prevent wood from greying. After installation, oil immediately (within week) or wait with a maximum of 6 weeks. If you wait to oil the wood, the wood has the chance (due to the influence of the sun) to colour evenly. Depending on your own taste, oil immediately or later. The wood must always be dry, so do not oil damp planks. It is best to treat the wood twice within a week for the first time.
Advantages of oiling
By oiling the wood, the wood keeps its warm natural look. If you do not oil the hardwood after approx. 5 months it will slowly become light grey in colour, your taste decides whether or not to oil. IPE hardwood is naturally durable and does not need oil to last longer. However, oil provides a water repellent effect, so that dirt and algae formation is less prevalent.

You can order per per litre of oil. Please watch our installation video for the correct and easy way of working. A starter kit contains 0.9 L oil . With this you can oil approx. 12 m2 of wood.
Important before oiling
We advise you to pre-sand the wood slightly with a machine or by hand, this will make the wood a little smoother and the end result will be more beautiful. By sanding you can also remove a stain or wax, which can occur on the wood. Only oil hardwood when it is not moist, so a dry surface is important. An eventual drop of oil can easily be rubbed out with a cloth. Post polishing of the wood is not necessary. It is best to repeat the process twice, especially the first time it is important that the hardwood is well saturated, and thick application is best. It is easiest to oil when the weather is sunny, then the oil flows nicer, but this is not necessary.
Maintenance
In spring and autumn, repeat the oiling process, so that the wood does not turn grey. Attention, wood that has become grey cannot become grey again.

Do not use floor boards near a swimming pool that contains chlorine or salt water. Fixing materials are made of stainless steel (clips and screws) the chlorine and salt attack the stainless steel, causing corrosion.
