How to calculate fencing for a slatted fence

In short: in our fence calculator you enter the total run including any gate, then choose Ipe or teak slats, the height, one or two sided, a privacy membrane and a gate. Posts, clips and screws are included. Ten metres of 5 cm Ipe slats at 1.8 m high came to about £3,305 on 20 October 2026, and about £2,980 in teak.

Calculate your fence

Before you start

A slatted fence is priced per linear metre, not per board. Each metre is made of 21 mm slats on 6 x 6 cm Azobé posts with a 5 mm gap. The slats run across the posts, so from the front you see no posts at all. The calculator counts everything that goes with it: posts, clips, screws and, if you want them, the gate and oil.

Five steps to your fence price

  1. Length. The total run including the gate, in metres with a decimal. If you measure 9.3 metres, enter 10 to cover offcuts.
  2. Fence type. Ipe slats of 5, 7 or 9 cm, a 5, 7 and 9 cm mix, barcode, 4 x 4 cm battens or triple profile. Our teak fencing in 5, 7 and 9 cm is in the calculator too.
  3. Height. 1.8 m, 2.0 m or 2.1 m. With a gate the fence must be at least 2.0 m high.
  4. One or two sides, and privacy. Slats on one or both faces. With the EPDM privacy membrane between the slats nobody can see through and it softens noise.
  5. Gate, gate posts and oil. A garden gate on a black steel frame, one or two 14 x 14 cm gate posts and optional oil.

Prices include VAT, posts, clips and screws, without gate, membrane or oil, as shown by the calculator on 20 October 2026. UK prices follow the exchange rate. Teak is 10% less than the same fence in Ipe, and delivers from November 2026.

Work out your own length

Ipe or teak?

Ipe is heavier and harder, with a warm brown colour. Teak is lighter in weight and golden brown, weathering to silver grey if left untreated. Both last 25+ years. Run both through the calculator and you will see the difference for your length straight away.
