Oak carport, made to measure

An oak carport is made to measure in solid oak, with posts of 15 x 15 or 18 x 18 cm and pegged mortise and tenon joints. Freestanding, attached to the house or as part of a larger outbuilding with storage. The size follows your cars and your drive, not a standard kit.

Carport with storage

The photo shows a customer's project: a shed with an apex roof and a carport built on, in Douglas fir. The same layout works in oak. See veranda with shed.

Oak or Douglas fir

Oak is heavier and more durable (class 2), Douglas fir lighter and more affordable (class 3 to 4). For a large carport at an exclusive home most customers choose oak. See oak or Douglas fir.

Frequently asked questions

How wide should a carport be?

Allow at least 3 metres for one car so the doors open. For two cars, about 6 metres. As we make to measure, you choose the width and depth.

Do I need planning permission?

Often not, but it depends. See planning permission.
