Wooden wall

Wooden cladding gives many buildings a rustic look. For example, you can cover a stone shed in the backyard with wood for a natural atmosphere. Or cover the facade of your home for a traditional look. Did you know that it is actually quite easy to clad a façade with wood yourself? Read on to find out how you can clad your façade in hardwood at low cost and get some indispensable tips on cladding.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF WOODEN CLADDING

Before deciding whether or not to install wall cladding, it is a good idea to weigh up the pros and cons. Firstly, wooden cladding provides a natural look. It is also easy to install and gives a completely different look to the structure in a relatively inexpensive way. In addition, should any repairs ever need to be carried out, a wooden façade is usually easy to adapt.

However, a wooden façade does require more maintenance than a façade made of stone or concrete. For example, you should stain or paint a wooden façade once in a while. However, you choose a hardwood facade of Hardwood Discount? Then you choose a relatively low maintenance wood. Our hardwood façade coverings are made of IPE, which has a life span of 30 years or more.

WHY AN EXTERIOR WALL MADE OF IPE WOOD?

IPE is considered the best possible wood for wall covering. As mentioned, it is a durable type of wood that is very resistant to wear and tear. This is partly due to the even structure and fine grain that naturally occurs in the wood. IPE has a (light) brown colour and fits in with almost every street scene or design. A big advantage of IPE is that it will not warp and is very solid. Your future wooden cladding will therefore hardly need any maintenance.

TYPES OF CLADDING

You should also consider how the wooden wall cladding is to be installed. With vertical cladding the planks are placed vertically against the wall. This can provide a somewhat modern look. Horizontal cladding, on the other hand, has a more traditional look. Although horizontal installation is more popular and easier, Hardwood Discount's timber cladding can be installed in both directions.

HOW TO INSTALL WOODEN FAÇADE CLADDING YOURSELF IN 3 STEPS:

To ensure that the cladding remains in top condition for a long time, correct installation is essential. The following step-by-step plan makes installing a hardwood façade quick and easy. The installation example is based on the assumption of horizontal cladding.

1. WOODEN GRID ON WALL

To begin with, you can mount a wooden framework against the subfloor. Especially on a (solid) stone or concrete foundation, you should create the framework with hardwood support beams. In some cases it is possible to screw the IPE laths directly onto the wall.

2. SCREW DOWN THE FIRST PLANK

Then attach the bottom IPE plank to the framework. You can fix it by means of steel nails or screws. Make sure that the board is perfectly level.

3. CONTINUATION: FASTENING THE BOARDS OF THE FAÇADE CLADDING

You can then proceed to screw the other boards of the wooden façade. Again, make sure that all the boards are level. It is recommended to leave 3 millimetres space between each board.
